Meeting the Needs of ELs or an equivalent FOUNDATIONS AND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION must be completed prior to Literacy Development for CLD Students and/or Instructional Strategies and Assessment for CLD students.
This course supports participants in developing instructional competency in reading/writing approaches for CLD students and examines teaching reading/writing across the curriculum.

This 1 credit (15 hours) course partially fulfills the 3 course (45 hours) Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education requirements for licensure with the Colorado Department of Education for educators endorsed in elementary, science, social studies or English seeking renewal of their professional license.

This is a course is a combination of one night face-to-face and the remainder of time online. The Imagine Project, written by Dianne Maroney is a practical, effective and profound tool which empowers kids to rise above drama, trauma and stress. The Imagine Project gives kids and teens a voice for positive change in their lives, and as they move forward in the world.  Research is showing that The Imagine Project increases resilience, improves optimism, adaptability and self-improvement and creates a remarkable sense of community between teachers and students. Teachers will receive a how to guide to support the project with their students.

Participants will develop tools and strategies for making their classrooms inclusive and affirming for LGBTQ+ students by deepening their understanding of LGBTQ+ identities, examining the experience of Cherry Creek students who identify as LGBTQ+, address gender identity and orientation bias, explore the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ identities and race, and learn actionable strategies that can be used in the classroom.

​This course will have four face-to-face meetings and a Saturday field experience on June 13.  Participants may also choose to attend the Denver Pride Parade on Sunday, June 21.

​This course is designed for all educators whose practice demonstrates a commitment to 21st century skills. This course will deepen participants' understanding of innovation and Culturally Relevant Education and how these are essential to promoting student success and more effectively closing the opportunity gap. There will be particular focus on the intentionality of rigor, relevance, and relationships. This course supports the 3 district initiatives of innovation, inclusive excellence, and professional learning communities by helping educators blend innovation and CRE in their practice, which will translate into the work done in PLCs. This is a blended course and includes a coaching component, which will be scheduled over the course of the class.
