In this workshop, participants will learn ways to expand and refine knowledge and skills learn in Days 1-4 ion order to promote more effective teaching and learning. The focus is on strategies that enhance teacher leaders' intellectual growth and strengthen instructional decision-making. During the workshop the problem re-solving map and coaching tools will be demonstrated and practiced. Specifically, participants will learn to: establish rapport; create trust; conduct planning, reflecting and problem re-solving conversations; and develop teacher self-confidence, collaboration, flexibility, awareness and precision. Successful completion of Cognitive Coaching Days 1-4 is required prior to requesting enrollment in this course.

Secondary Science Storyline Workshop

The Secondary Science Storyline Workshop will support our work as we transition to the 2020 Colorado Academic Standards for Science, which are based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This professional learning is designed to go beyond traditional science content. By focusing on phenomena relevant to students' lives and communities, the course provides opportunities to authentically engage with science and engineering practices. The combination of community science, technology, and a focus on science and engineering practices has been shown to help students feel more like scientists, including the belief that their ability to do science can make a difference in their world (Bang & Medin, 2010; Calabrese Barton & Tan, 2010; Roth & Lee, 2003; Shutt, Vye, & Bransford, 2011; Tzou & Bell, 2010).
In this four day workshop, teachers engage with inquiryHub Biology and the resources and routines required to support students in: eliciting and making use of student questions to organize instruction; building understanding of science ideas that are coherent from the student point of view and relevant to their everyday lives; equitable and productive discussion; and assessment of three dimensional learning. Examples of session topics: What does it mean to use phenomena and questioning to support student sensemaking? How do you support and assess your students through the storyline process? How can we help students 'go public', go deeper, and revise and put together ideas they have built? Putting the pieces together, problematizing, and the storyline process Examples of breakout topics: What resources are there to help me plan my instruction? Participants will have the option to register and pay for credits from CU Boulder separate of their registration in PD Pro. |

The components of Balanced Literacy are equitable practices that all students should have the opportunity to experience in their education in CCSD. This course will allow educators to deepen their understanding of the reading components. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore the components of Balanced Literacy and reflect on their own individual practices.

STEAM Explorations: Arduino, Sketch-Up, and Fabrication Tools

This course will dive into 3 different areas of STEM and Technology focused on the middle school STEAM Exploration Course. 1. Fabrication Tools - 3 hours 2. Sketch-Up - 6 hours 3. Arduino - 6 hours Teachers outside of this focus area are welcome to sign-up. A menu approach, you may signup for whatever sections suit your needs. You will only be able to register for horizontal advancement credit if you take the entire series. In preparation for the new course STEAM Explorations, offered to all middle school students on 2020-2021, educators will need to have knowledge and experience Arduino https://www.arduino.cc Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs - light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message - and turn it into an output - activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so you use the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring), and the Arduino Software (IDE), based on Processing. Educators teaching this course will be required to have this knowledge.
